When will the changes take effect?

The changes to the maximum age for dependants will be phased:

  • Non-student dependants – The maximum age increased from 25 to 31 on 1 October 2022. Children aged 21 to 30 years (inclusive), no longer studying full-time and who are single (not married or in a defacto relationship) may be covered as Non-Student Dependants. An additional premium may be payable which we can confirm at the time of the request. This change automatically applies for existing non-student dependants on a Qantas Health Insurance policy. However, to be added as a non-student dependant to a policy, the policyholder (or partner with authority on the policy) just needs to call us on 13 49 60 to make the changes.
  • Student dependants - The maximum age increased from 24 to 31 on 1 July 2023. Children aged 21 to 30 years (inclusive), studying full-time and who are single (not married or in a defacto relationship) may be covered as Student Dependants. This change will automatically apply for existing student dependants on a Qantas Health Insurance policy. However, to add a new student dependant to a policy, the policyholder (or partner with authority on the policy) just needs to call us on 13 49 60 to make the changes.
  • Dependants with a disability – These changes are still being worked through, and are expected to be introduced in early 2025.
