What age of dependant changes has the Australian Government introduced to private health insurance?

The Australian Government introduced reforms in April 2021 that give health insurers the option to increase the maximum age of dependants allowed under private health insurance from 25 to 31 years of age. In addition, the Australian Government introduced a voluntary reform for insurers to remove the age limit for dependants with a disability.

While the changes are voluntary for health insurers, we have worked with our underwriter nib to introduce changes so that eligible student and non-student dependant members are provided with greater choice and access to affordable health services to continue to keep on top of their health and wellbeing.
